Eight RTA SpeedBlitz Blues in Test touring party

The selection of Josh Hazlewood for the upcoming VB Test Tour of India brought to eight the number of RTA SpeedBlitz Blues in the Australian touring party.
This is the equal second highest number of New South Welshman ever to appear in an Australian Test Touring Party, equalling the eight players that were selected for the tour of the West Indies in 2007-08.

As a comparison the members of the West Indies Tour party were :

Michael Clarke (vc)
Beau Casson
Stuart Clark
Brad Haddin
Phil Jaques
Simon Katich
Brett Lee
Stuart MacGill

(Doug Bollinger joined the tour in the West Indies as a replacement for Ben Hilfenhaus)

The eight players selected to tour India this month are :

Michael Clarke (vc)
Doug Bollinger
Nathan Hauritz
Josh Hazlewood
Phillip Hughes
Simon Katich
Steven Smith
Shane Watson

The highest ever number of New South Welshmen selected in an Australian Test touring squad were the 10 members of the 1921 tour of England and South Africa.

Cricket NSW Chairman Dr Harry Harinath was delighted with the news:

“To see eight members of the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues in the Tour party to India is tremendous news for our State. It vindicates that the effort being put in at grass-roots level and through our State cricket program is paying dividends. It is exciting to see the selection of 19 year old Josh Hazlewood. This again demonstrates the quality of cricketer that country NSW produces.”
